You have the ability to manifest your dreams simply with the power of your thoughts. These are just a few of the promises put forth by Law of Attraction aficionados. Are these false promises?

Is the Law of Attraction bogus?

Law of Attraction detractors would answer yes to both questions. And when you examine their reasons for doubting the validity of this law, their rationale is not so illogical. These Law of Attraction skeptics raise some very legitimate questions, and these questions should not be brushed aside as beside-the-point by those who choose to acknowledge the legitimacy of the Law of Attraction.

Is the Law of Attraction bogus? As one who is on the side of acknowledging the legitimacy of this law, I say no. Are the promises put forth by students of the Law of Attraction untrue? Again I say no, but I do concede that they are misleading.

There is an untold story about the Law of Attraction that is not covered in the bullet point summation of this law. And because the general public often only receives the CliffsNotes version of what the Law of Attraction entails, it is no wonder what causes some people to conclude that the law doesn’t work.

what is the Law of Attraction?

A basic review (for those who are unfamiliar with the law), what is the Law of Attraction? Succinctly stated (as taken from the biblical book of Matthew 21:22), “whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you believe.” And what are beliefs? Beliefs are nothing more than practiced thoughts.

As put in the book entitled The Law of Attraction by Esther and Jerry Hicks: “Thought is the vibration which The Law of Attraction is acting upon.” “Whether you are focusing upon things you want or things you don’t want, the evidence of your thoughts continually flows toward you.”

In other words, every thought that you give credence to eventually manifests in your life experience. Your life experience is an active expression of your beliefs. These are some of the Law of Attraction bullet points.

One of the issues raised by Law of Attraction skeptics is how is it possible for everyone to get exactly what they want in life? Does the Law of Attraction proclaim that everyone can use the principles of the law to manifest material wealth in their life experience? Can everyone, applying this law, be a millionaire for example? The answer is no.

What doesn’t often get said about the Law of Attraction beyond the bullet points is that no one has the power to dictate how exactly their beliefs will manifest in their life.

As I write in my book, 21 Days to a Changed Life, while it is true that you have absolute control over the “what” of your life experience, it is also true that you have virtually no say when it comes to the “how” of your life experience.

How it really works

The Law of Attraction does not give you the authority to plan the situations you encounter in life. It does, however, endow you with the ability to determine “what kind of emotional experience the events that arise in your life and the people that come into and go out of your life will be predisposed to inspire” as your life’s situations unfold.

And what about freewill? No soul has the power to infringe upon the freewill of another soul. All of Spirit’s expressions are sovereign. So how is it, if you do not have the power to dictate the events of your life or make the people in your life do as you want them to do, do you have the power to create your life experience through the Law of Attraction?

The answer is through the energy you radiate. Every belief you hold has an energy signature. These energy signatures emanate from you. In a very real, concrete sense, you are broadcasting your beliefs about life throughout the universe all the time. From this broadcast you attract to your life experience energy signatures which are sympathetic to your beliefs.

And by this creative process, with respect to other souls, no soul’s freewill is ever infringed upon because each soul’s involvement in the life experience of another soul is based upon the cooperation of compatible needs and interests rather than a competition to determine which soul has dominance over the other.

With respect to the situations that arise in your life experience, know that every situation you encounter in life unfolds with the purpose of inspiring the specific feelings that are associated with your beliefs. And there are an endless number of situations that can unfold that may fit this criterion.

You do not get to pick which situation arises. You do not get to dictate first this event will happen, then that event will happen, then this, that and other will occur, all culminating in the creation of this life experience I envision for myself. But you may trust that whatever situations do unfurl in your life, will inspire the reinforcement of your chosen beliefs. This is the Law of Attraction at work.

What do you want?

If you’re like most people, you want to be happy, fulfilled, healthy, wealthy and you want to be at peace, free to live your life the way you want to live it.

The question is how?

The answer is your beliefs. Simply put, as you believe, so shall you be! The Law of Attraction states that thoughts become things. What you think about, you bring about. Your thoughts create your reality.

According to Jane Roberts, an American author,

“You are given the gifts of the gods; you create your reality
according to your beliefs. Yours is the creative energy that
makes your world. There are no limitations to the self except
those you believe in.”

Therefore whatever you put energy into strong enough, clear enough and with enough belief will indeed happen. Here is the critical part. Many, many people are living lives that are far less than their heart’s desires because of what’s going on unconsciously.

In other words, their unconscious, negative beliefs about themselves and their world are what they are manifesting. Remember this.

The unconscious wins every time.

Why? Because it’s sending out stronger messages over and over. The Universe gives you what you ask for whether you’re conscious of it or not. So, if consciously you say you want to be wealthy, but unconsciously you don’t believe you deserve it, you won’t have wealth

So, to live the life you really want, you must first uncover your unconscious beliefs and then question your conscious ones. The reason is simple. It’s not what you know about your life that runs it, it’s what you don’t know and you can’t change what you don’t know. But you can change what you do know.

Then, you have to believe you can have that life. You have to believe that you deserve that life. You have to believe that you are good enough. You have to believe that you will succeed. You have to believe in yourself, wholly, completely and beyond a shred of doubt.

Here’s why.

Since your beliefs run your life (whether you know what they are or not), it stands to reason that If you’re not living the life you want, then you need to examine the things you believe and then test their validity against reality. For example, a common misbelief (but a belief nonetheless) that people have is that they are not good enough.

To test that belief (if you have it) ask yourself this question, “Who or what am I not good enough for?” In other words, who or what are you comparing yourself to that you believe you are not good enough? What is your standard of measurement?

Do that with as many of your “negative beliefs” as you can and watch how fast things will start to change for the better in your life.

The reason that its true is that when you discover a false belief, and see it for the lie that it is, it loses all its power. It simply can’t hold up under the light because there’s nothing to it in the first place. It just appears real in your mind.

Take it slow in the beginning. You may get anxious and want to get rid of all of your beliefs that have not served you right away, but that won’t work. In fact, it will have the opposite effect.
